This is the procedure for setting up POP Email accounts with Outlook Express 4, 5 or 6 or Microsoft Mail in Windows Vista.
- From the Outlook Express Window, click onto the Tools menu and select Accounts.
- From the Internet Account page, click onto the Add button on the top right and then select Mail.
- Type in the Name that you want attached to your emails.
- Click the Next button.
- Check that you have a dot next to I already have an email address that I'd like to use.
- Type in your email address. Example: john@domainname.com.
- Click the Next button.
- Check that My incoming mail server is a POP3 server
- Type in your Incoming mail server. Example: mail.domainname.com
- Type in your Outgoing mail server. Example: mail.domainname.com
- Click the Next button.
- Type in your email address for the username in the Account name box. Example: john@domainname.com.
- Type in your password in the Password box.
- If the password box is greyed out then put a tick in the Remember Password box so that you can type in your password.
- Click the Next button.
- Click the Finish button.
The next steps are important to insure your emails are sent properly:
- Find the account you just created in the Accounts window (it may be the only one there)
- Click on that account and click on the Properties button
- Click on the Servers tab
- The last checkbox should be "My Outgoing Server Requires Authentication" CHECK that box
- Click the OK button
- Click the Close button at the bottom of the Internet Accounts page.
- This should take us back to the main Outlook Express page. All done!
