Help: Setting Up Your E-mail in Microsoft Outlook Express / Microsoft Mail

This is the procedure for setting up POP Email accounts with Outlook Express 4, 5 or 6 or Microsoft Mail in Windows Vista.

  1. From the Outlook Express Window, click onto the Tools menu and select Accounts.
  2. From the Internet Account page, click onto the Add button on the top right and then select Mail.
  3. Type in the Name that you want attached to your emails.
  4. Click the Next button.
  5. Check that you have a dot next to I already have an email address that I'd like to use.
  6. Type in your email address. Example: john@domainname.com.
  7. Click the Next button.
  8. Check that My incoming mail server is a POP3 server
  9. Type in your Incoming mail server. Example: mail.domainname.com
  10. Type in your Outgoing mail server. Example: mail.domainname.com
  11. Click the Next button.
  12. Type in your email address for the username in the Account name box. Example: john@domainname.com.
  13. Type in your password in the Password box.
  14. If the password box is greyed out then put a tick in the Remember Password box so that you can type in your password.
  15. Click the Next button.
  16. Click the Finish button.
The next steps are important to insure your emails are sent properly:
  1. Find the account you just created in the Accounts window (it may be the only one there)
  2. Click on that account and click on the Properties button
  3. Click on the Servers tab
  4. The last checkbox should be "My Outgoing Server Requires Authentication" CHECK that box
  5. Click the OK button
  6. Click the Close button at the bottom of the Internet Accounts page.
  7. This should take us back to the main Outlook Express page. All done!
